Keeping things simple in a not so simple world

a little twist

The season for lemonade is upon us.  Two weeks ago I shared our favorite Spice Lemon Limeade here.  We have already had several pitchers, including a couple of glasses mixed with gin – phenomenal!

Today I’d like to share with you another of our favorite.  A little twist on traditional lemonade.

Basil lemonade

a small bunch of fresh basil (about 1/4 cup)
4-5 large organic lemons
7 cups of water
sweetener of choice

In a small pot, place 1 cup water. Add 1/4 cup, fresh chopped basil. Bring to a boil, simmer for 10 minutes, remove from heat and let sit for an hour or until cool.

In the meantime, squeeze the lemons until you have about a cup of juice. Add to a pitcher and add the remaining six cups of water. Add the basil water to the pitcher by straining the water through a small sieve.

Add sweetener of choice. I usually add about 1/4 cup of agave.
